In our ongoing Designer Spotlight Series, we talk with interior designers and architects to see what inspires them, and get insights to how they approach creating beautiful spaces. In this Spotlight we talk with Gina of D'Amore Interiors and learn about her process and experiences as a designer.
Stikwood: How long have you been in business as an interior designer?
Gina: My whole life! My parents started our company in 1980 before I was born, so I grew up in this business. I started taking on my own interior design clients at age 18, so now that I’m 36 I’m fortunate to have many years experience already.
Stikwood: Can you tell us a little bit more about D'Amore Interiors?
Gina: We are unique in that we have an 18,000 sq ft retail showroom in addition to our full service design firm. We are located in Denver, CO but do projects across the state as well as out of state. My mom and I are both interior designers and handle all types of projects, ranging from new builds to remodels, as well as furnishing and decorating existing spaces. We are capable of doing any kind of design style for our clients… in fact that’s what makes our job so much fun! We never know who we will meet and where they will take us, both in design style and location wise!
Stikwood: Can you tell us how Stikwood has helped you in making your designs unique?
Gina: I much prefer using specialty materials over plain drywall when upping the style of a space. It’s not always an option, so in the very least choosing paint colors is equally important in setting the tone. Stikwood has become a hero for us in many projects that aren’t full scale remodels, but are craving a bit more design intention. It’s so easy to use and has so much variety now, so there are so many different looks within Stikwood’s product range alone.
Stikwood: What would you say is your “signature style”?
Gina: All of our designs have intent! Meaning we don’t wimp out and make half way decisions. An important part of our process is getting to know our clients so well that we get to a point where we can figure out what they really want before they necessarily know it! This results in edgy, moody ambiance full of color, texture and various materials. We design with and on purpose!
Stikwood: What was your favorite project using Stikwood products? What made it so special?
Gina: One of my favorite Stikwood projects was a basement remodel that went from seriously boring and suburban to a moody speakeasy vibe! There were many random dropped ceiling details that were just wrapped in drywall to hide HVAC equipment etc, so I used Stikwood to wrap those drops and turn them into architectural features that looked like they were there on purpose. I even carried Stikwood vertically down a wall to line up with one of these dropped areas to create a feature wall and break up an overwhelming expanse of space to fill.
Stikwood: What is your best piece of advice to offer someone who wants to redecorate a room on their own?
Gina: Forget what you think you’re supposed to do and allow someone to create a space that’s so perfectly you! So many clients begin with a predisposition due to a model home they saw, their neighbors house, or what their friends think they should do. It’s your space so as long as it functions and feels like you, that’s the most important thing!
Stikwood: Where can people go to find out more about your services?
