In our ongoing Designer Spotlight Series, we talk with interior designers and architects to see what inspires them, and get insights to how they approach creating beautiful spaces… This week Stephanie Pohlman sat with us to share her take on interior design.
Stikwood: How long have you been in business as an interior designer?
Stephanie: I graduated from the University of Missouri in 2012 and got a commercial design job immediately after. After transitioning to residential design in 2014, I decided to start my own business as Stephanie Pohlman Designs in 2016.
Stikwood: Tell us a bit about your business and experience.
Stephanie: I offer a broad variety of design services from small decor jobs to large new builds and remodels. Since I went to school for design and architecture, I have the experience to create floor plans and new layouts. I love connecting with my clients and working with them to create their dream space.
With most projects, I start with a design board where I help them visualize my ideas. After establishing a budget and plan, I pull together the look by taking care of coordination with trades and shopping for the final install. It’s the best feeling getting a text or call from my clients when they come home and see the final product!
Stikwood: How does Stikwood fit into your design?
Stephanie: I love the variety of options Stikwood has to create character in a room. As you can see from my projects, I have installed it on a herringbone, vertical, and horizontal. Stikwood makes a statement and starts as my inspiration for the overall look of the room. In our guest bedroom, I knew I wanted a calming space, so I chose the minimalistic fur option to help achieve that look. The finishes Stikwood has to offer are so unique and help set the rooms apart from others.
Stikwood: What would you say is your “signature style”?
Stephanie: I wouldn’t pinpoint one certain style, but can say I try to keep my designs light, airy, and cozy. My clients often come to me wanting a family friendly space, but still eye-catching.
Stikwood: What was your favorite project using Stikwood products? What made it so special?
Stephanie: My favorite project has been my own personal guest bedroom. It is special to me, because I was able to install it by myself, 38 weeks pregnant and during a pandemic. Haha. I love how it proves how easy this product is to install, yet still make a visual impact.
Stikwood: What is your best piece of advice to offer someone who wants to redecorate a room on their own?
Stephanie: Start with a vision board so you can compile all your ideas into one. The number one thing I get from clients is that they don’t know their style. My biggest piece of advice is to focus on things you like, since at the end of the day, it’s your home and you need to love it.
Stikwood: Where can people go to find out more about your services?
Stephanie: My website has all the info you would need for my services. I am also very active on instagram and answer to direct messages. My website is www.stephaniepohlmandesigns.com. I offer an E-Design service for those that aren’t local to me.
